Hello beautiful soul! This morning, I received an email that reminded me of a powerful realization I had years ago — and one I feel called to share with you today. But first, let me invite you into my process... the email came from one of the few spiritual teachers I follow, and it centered around a question he asked himself:
"What would I be doing if I knew I only had 7 days left to live?"
Okay, I have to admit, I’m generally not a fan of these kinds of questions, but I was intrigued enough to keep reading. And I was quite surprised by his response.
He said, "For me, the answer had nothing to do with what I had been focusing on for the past 10 years. It had to do with going ALL-IN on my dreams of creating a TV show that inspires the masses through reality TV entertainment and wisdom — beyond anything I could accomplish as a 'spiritual mentor' on social media."
In full transparency, my sacral response was an immediate "Ew." It landed flat in my body. It didn’t resonate with me at all. So much so, that my ego jumped in, doubting his sincerity. “Was he really saying this because it conveniently tied into his latest offering?” Maybe. Maybe not. But that wasn’t important. What mattered was how, beneath my questioning of his integrity, lay my own judgments of my own response to the same question. I felt wrong, inadequate, maybe even selfish, for my answer.
Personal tidbit: If I knew I only had 7 days left to live, I'd throw a big party, invite everyone I love, hug them, cherish them, say ‘Bon Voyage,’ and then hop on a plane to Nepal the next morning — hoping to squeeze in a cliff jump and skydiving somewhere along the way.
No thoughts of pursuing grand, world-changing dreams. No focus on “leaving a legacy.” Just... living, fully, in the moment. And in that, I was reminded...
I don’t really have a grand vision for all of this. And for me, I've found that’s one of the many side effects of living in devotion.
The need for a big vision, a long-term plan, or a neatly packaged outcome — it ceases. Now, that doesn’t mean I never receive a vision. I do! If I didn’t, none of this would be here, haha! But it means I no longer feel pressured to force a vision just for the sake of having one. The vision comes when it’s meant to, and I’ll take inspired action as it does.
It’s about working from the knowing that all will be provided when it’s meant to be.
You get me?
Living in devotion — truly aligning with Spirit's calling — often doesn’t look like what we expect. It doesn’t come with the flashy accolades or the instant gratification that the ego craves. And that’s why, at times, it can bring up feelings of inadequacy or even depression — because we’re shifting our values.
When we live in devotion, we’re no longer chasing the same markers of success. The old measures — career milestones, financial freedom, social validation — no longer feel as important. Instead, what truly matters is our deep connection with Spirit, the present moment, and the quiet knowing that we are exactly where we need to be — even when it feels like we’re "falling behind" in the eyes of others.
This is where the tension arises. The soul’s path is about alignment and trust — not about achieving external accomplishments to prove our worth. The ego, however, is always trying to prove its value, justifying its existence through accolades or outcomes. But as we walk the path of devotion, we learn that we don’t need to prove anything at all. The pressure to perform fades, and what remains is the steady, quiet pulse of the soul’s wisdom leading us forward.
So yes, it can feel unsettling. It can bring up feelings of inadequacy or the sense that we don’t have it all figured out. But this shift is part of the process. It’s a beautiful, albeit uncomfortable, invitation to release the ego’s grip and trust the soul’s deeper calling. Peace and freedom don’t come from external success — they come from aligning with the present moment, embracing what is, and knowing we are already enough.
But yes, as I’ve mentioned before, it’s hard to practice this when the predominant message in our world is to commit, look ahead, make a plan, strategize, secure an outcome — and then rinse and repeat. The formula for success, right? But here’s the truth...
Haha! Yes 😉 But also...
Nothing in the external (seen) world is the deliverer of peace, happiness, security, or freedom. It is all within.
Freedom lies in not being attached to the outcome. Freedom lies in letting go of rigid expectations and surrendering to the magic that unfolds when we trust the unknown.
We don’t have to have it all figured out.
We’re not doing something wrong if we’re not as "put-together" as others might appear.
We don’t need to fit into a box that was never meant for us.
Our real power lies in letting go — the need to control, the need for a grand vision, the need to have all the answers. It’s trusting the unfolding, being present with what is, and surrendering to the beautiful mystery of life. That’s where freedom lies.
So, I want to invite you to ask yourself: What would you be doing if you only had 7 days left to live? But, more importantly, what do you feel called to do today — right now — in this moment, without needing to know exactly where it will lead?
Let go of the pressure to “do it right.” Trust the process, and let the Universe guide you.
Freedom is found in the void. 🌿
(A lot of other stuff is found there, too! 😂)
If this resonates with you, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Feel free to share them in the comments below or hit reply — I’m here for you. Together, let’s explore the magic that unfolds when we stop trying to control every step and simply surrender to what is.
Sending you love, trust, and freedom on your journey. ✨
