That's right! I finally had an aha moment, let some old stories go and opened Nefelibata Living! For those of you new to the blog, the creation of Nefelibata Living had been on my heart for a while. But I resisted. As we all do. For a long time. I just became accustomed to confidently calling myself a photographer so to turn around and call myself a painter, after only two years of dribbling paint and watching it dance, seemed weird. It still does. But God has this crazy way of breaking through these made up stories we have for ourselves and proving that we're far more capable than we believe ourselves to be.
And he did just that... he blew one of my long-held dreams right into my life without the faintest hint it was coming around the bend. It was pure serendipity. I was meeting a woman to drop off a small watercolor she had ordered when another happened to see and within a week, I was commissioned to create a large 4- by 6-foot painting for her home.
It was one of most memorable moments of my life to see God work in my life in such a remarkable way and I'm eternally grateful for the lesson that accompanied it. I could no longer stay in the "I'm not a painter" story. It was old. And I was ready to embark on something new. Nefelibata. "Cloud walker. An individual who lives in the clouds of her own imagination or dreams. A person who doesn't abide by the rules of society, literature, or art." And a collection of abstract watercolor and acrylic paintings, inspired by my late Uncle Jeff. And Pink Floyd because, well, you know.
What about you? Have you ever seen magic unfold in a way that proves you're not who or what you thought you were? That breaks you out of your own mold? Or ideas around your life? Leave a comment! I'd love to hear!
